The Firmware updater reported that the firmware was up to date. There is Mb RAM. Originally it was 64Mb. It ran fine and reported Mb for a month or so under 9.
Note it's running fine with I know it's missing X11, or at least I can't locate it on the hard drive. Just wonder what I'm missing from disks 2 and However, I would like to install Open Office which requires X Reply Helpful 1 Thread reply - more options Link to this Post. Looks like there is some software on CDs 2 and 3 I'd like to install iPhoto, among others. I do not get an error or anything. They just don't mount no icon on desktop. Did you choose Custom Install? Just wipe and install. I ran a CD lens cleaning disk through the drive tonight, and tried again Wouldn't be surprised if the drive is wonky.
Might try to pick up an external and give it another go. Everything I need is installed now, found X11 and iTunes, etc. Only iPhoto remains to be installed now and it's not really needed. Boy, Finally got my networked Brother laser working, connecting with the PeeCees, etc. Couldn't do that under 9. Thanks for the assist, Ali. I'm happy that you're enjoying OS X! I know I love it. I'm still very puzzled why Disc 2 doesn't install. How was it made? Thank you, Skybird, for your response.
Both of the offending DVDs were given to me by friends. They had written them on their home devices. I expect that both are data disks. When one writes a DVD, doesn't one need to "close" it or "finalize" the DVD in order to ensure that others can read it? Perhaps my friends didn't do that. Is that a possibility? Incidentally, I found the link to the Users' Guide very useful. How did you find it? Yes, a disc needs to be closed to be viewed.
Another consideration is how a disc is created. For example, if the picture disc was created by a specific program, then that program may be required on all playback systemsthat use the disc; or if a disc is created to playback with a specific. Hopefully the issue is that the discs merely need to be closed.
Also, how did you find the users' manual that you referenced earlier? I couldn't find it by either browsing or searching. Thanks again, Skybird. The same laser is used for either format. It seems strange though that the drives in the two other computers that I mentioned can read the DVDs, but the Matshita cannot. On the users' manual, I was looking there but couldn't find it. I suppose that one looks under "storage," but then what.
It wasn't anywhere that I looked. Thanks again. Matshita is Panasonic.
