Additionally, the dealer license fee s , salespersons license fee s , and insurance are not required prior to approval of your application. The salesperson license s will be provided to you by the Motor Vehicle Commission upon receipt of your application. There must be a physical barrier that doesnt allow flow through traffic. Your office need not be a separate walled enclosure, but it must be a separate defined area with office furnishings.
A dealer who operates at more than one location must have a dealer license for each location. This includes separate building franchises. Note: Your application must be received at least ten 10 working days prior to the Commission Meeting at which it is to be considered. This does not include the day of the meeting, weekends or holidays.
The Commission meets the second Friday of each month, but may be changed due to holidays or bad weather. The applicant will be notified when the certificate of insurance is required.
A Motor Vehicle Salesperson license is required for every person employed by a dealer to sell motor vehicles even if on a temporary basis , including the owners of the business and for every person employed at a vehicle auction as an auctioneer of vehicles KAR Section 5. A salesperson of motor vehicles shall not engage in business in this state at any location without a license issued for that location as provided in KRS The sign must be installed when application is submitted.

If there is any question about separation, the Commission may require a physical barrier to be installed between the different businesses. The application form must be completed and received back in this office by ten 10 working days before the next scheduled Commission meeting held on the second Friday of each month.
If the application is not completely filled out, it will be returned to you. All requirements are the same except for the dealer sign. A wholesaler does not need a dealer sign identifying his business, but all other requirements must be met. You must renew your salesperson licenses and the dealer licenses at the same time. There is no longer a need to have salesperson licenses stamped at the Frankfort office.
Please remember to make two copies of your salesperson licenses , one for posting in the dealership and the other for the salesperson. You will have a chance to review your work before completing. Be sure to check your work for mistakes.
