Ram test program forum
Corrupted data, crashes and unexplained behaviour. Bad RAM is one of the most frustrating computer problems to have as symptoms are often random and hard to pin down. MemTest86 can help diagnose faulty RAM or rule it out as a cause of system instability. Since MemTest86 v5, the software is offered as a Free edition, or as a paid for Pro and Site edition. Stress test all the major sub-systems of a computer for Endurance, Reliability and Stability.
It will say on your post screen. Boot off the USB stick. Press "Config. Now let the application run the test until completion or until errors appear. You can monitor the progress of the test at the top of the screen. Depending on your memory size, testing can take from 20 minutes to a few hours. If errors appear, there is no point in continuing testing.
A screen with errors looks like this:. If you didn't get any errors: congratulations. Your memory is in working order. You can either rest assured or, if you are having crashes, continue troubleshooting to figure out what else may be the cause now that RAM issues are ruled out. If you do get errors, then also congratulations: you've found the culprit of your crashes.
If you have multiple RAM kits, be sure to test them independently to figure out which is causing problems and send it in for warranty. Luckily, a lot of RAM kits come with a lifetime warranty these days. But there are three things you can do to try to get rid of these RAM-caused issues. The first is to ensure that your RAM is running at the correct clocks for your system. All memory has its speed and timings written on its label or packaging, and you want to make sure that it runs at these speeds using the XMP profiles in your BIOS.
Anything else beside the above has only been tested by using emulators momentarily; so it is not yet guaranteed to work perfectly everywhere. If anyone could try and test it on as many and different platforms or equipments as possible, then I would be very glad to see some reports of the actual results here. I wasn't aware of your previous article either.
Testing for GeoRAM memory took too long by the way. The main memory is not tested too thoroughly: only the pages from another location are copied and compared, then erased and not the whole 64K either for compatibility issues e.
So it is much longer. The VDC is quite different, it is tested once by loading by writing into from the outside , then twice by using its own block copy function all neighbouring pages are swapped with each other and then swapped back again , and once again by using its block fill. Also not the whole amount not to harm the visible screen and charset. Maybe I could have written such another separate program for rigorously testing the main memory, too, but I did not think that so necessary I can do it later by the way.
It was more interesting for me to see the transfer speed measurements e. Quote from: headglamour1 on September 13, , AM.
Both spam, yes, now removed Not sure how it's going into Windows directly from the bootable disk, very odd. Either the CD wasn't built correctly The program started testing the memory. If you tell me how to upload them I can show you pictures of what happens when I run some older versions of memtest.
Saying that though, now that I have jiggled my RAM about I can't find a problem with it, and I've not had the time to re-test the program since. So this is now just a case of an irritating program that I would prefer to work. Pages: [ 1 ] Go Up. SMF 2.
